Planting & Care

Planting Instructions: Bay Laurel Trees are adaptable, growing in full sun to partial shade (4 to 8 hours of sunlight daily) and acclimating to a variety of soil types, provided the soil is well-drained.

After selecting your location, dig a hole that’s at least two to three times wider than your Bay Laurel’s root ball. If you’re planting in a container, choose one that’s around two times the width of your Bay Laurel’s shipped container. Once you’ve placed your tree, back fill its soil, tamp down to avoid air pockets and lastly, water to help establish its roots.

Watering: It’s drought tolerant, but one thorough watering weekly is important until the tree is establishment. If you’re not sure when to water your Bay Laurel, simply check the surrounding soil, down to around 2 or 3 inches. If the tree’s surrounding soil is dry, it’s time to water.

Fertilizing: Since your Bay Laurel grows rather steadily, it doesn’t require a great deal of fertilizer. But container-grown plants may need some supplemental fertilizer for best results.

Pruning: Pruning is the Bay Laurel is only necessary to remove dead branches, but if you’d like to shear your Bay Laurel into a topiary tree, prune according to your desired shape.
